Techietory Forum Rules

Effective Date: July 10, 2026 Last Updated: July 10, 2026

These Forum Rules (“Rules“) govern your participation in the Techietory Forum (“Forum“) and apply in addition to our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, which are incorporated by reference. By posting, replying, reacting, messaging, or otherwise participating in the Forum, you agree to follow these Rules.

Our goal is to keep the Forum a welcoming, useful, and safe space for people who want to learn, teach, and talk about technology. These Rules exist to protect that goal — please read them before posting.

1. Who These Rules Apply To

1.1 These Rules apply to all registered users of the Forum, moderators, and administrators, and to guest commenters where guest posting is enabled.

1.2 These Rules apply to all Forum content: threads, replies, private/direct messages sent through the Forum (where enabled), signatures, avatars, profile bios, polls, attachments, and shared code snippets.

1.3 Ignorance of these Rules is not a valid defense against enforcement action.

2. Core Principles

2.1 Be respectful. Disagreement is fine; disrespect is not. 2.2 Be helpful. The Forum exists to help people learn and solve problems. 2.3 Be honest. Don’t mislead, impersonate, or manipulate. 2.4 Be safe. Don’t post or request anything that could harm people, systems, or accounts. 2.5 Stay on topic. Keep discussions relevant to their category and title.

3. Account and Identity Rules

3.1 One account per person. Multiple/”sockpuppet” accounts used to evade bans, manipulate votes, fake consensus, or bypass posting limits are prohibited.

3.2 Accurate representation. Do not impersonate Techietory staff, moderators, other users, or public figures. Usernames, avatars, and profile bios that impersonate others or are designed to deceive will be removed and may result in a ban.

3.3 Usernames. Usernames must not contain slurs, hate speech, sexually explicit terms, or content that infringes another party’s trademark or impersonates a real person or brand without clear parody indication.

3.4 Account sharing. Do not share your account credentials with others or use another person’s account.

3.5 Minimum account standards. New accounts may be subject to posting limits, moderation queues, or CAPTCHA/verification checks to reduce spam and abuse.

4. Posting Guidelines

4.1 Choose the Right Category

Post in the category that best matches your topic (e.g., Programming Languages, Web Development, Hardware & Electronics, AI/ML, Career & Education, Off-Topic/Lounge). Misplaced threads may be moved or merged by moderators without notice.

4.2 Search Before Posting

Search existing threads before starting a new one. If a relevant thread already exists, reply there instead of creating a duplicate. Moderators may merge or close duplicate threads.

4.3 Clear, Descriptive Titles

Thread titles must clearly describe the topic or problem (e.g., “Segmentation fault in C linked-list insert function” rather than “Help!!! Urgent!!!”). Titles in all caps, containing only emojis, or that are deliberately vague/clickbait may be edited or removed.

4.4 One Topic Per Thread

Keep each thread focused on a single topic or problem. Don’t hijack someone else’s thread to ask an unrelated question — start a new thread instead.

4.5 Formatting

  • Use code blocks (not plain text or screenshots) for code, error messages, and terminal output, so others can read, copy, and test it.
  • Use appropriate tags/prefixes where available (e.g., [Solved], [Help], [Discussion], [Tutorial]).
  • Avoid excessive bolding, all-caps, or exclamation points to grab attention.

4.6 Language

The primary language of the Forum is English unless a category is explicitly designated for another language. This helps moderators review content and helps the widest number of users benefit from discussions.

5. Posting Help/Support Requests

To get better and faster help when asking a technical question:

5.1 Clearly state what you are trying to achieve, what you expected to happen, and what actually happened. 5.2 Include relevant code (in code blocks), error messages, environment details (OS, language/framework version), and steps you’ve already tried. 5.3 Do not post large, unrelated blocks of code “just in case” — trim examples to what’s relevant (a minimal reproducible example) wherever possible. 5.4 Mark your thread [Solved] once your question is answered, and consider posting your solution for the benefit of future readers with the same problem. 5.5 Do not repeatedly “bump” unanswered threads more than once every 48 hours. Excessive bumping may be treated as spam.

6. Prohibited Content

The following content is strictly prohibited anywhere on the Forum, including threads, replies, signatures, avatars, profile bios, attachments, and private messages:

6.1 Illegal and Harmful Content

  • Content that violates any applicable law, including copyright/trademark infringement, distribution of pirated software, cracked license keys, or unauthorized access credentials;
  • Instructions or requests for creating malware, ransomware, viruses, exploits, or tools designed to gain unauthorized access to systems or data, except in the context of an approved, clearly-labeled educational security/CTF category subject to moderator oversight;
  • Content promoting or facilitating fraud, phishing, carding, account takeover, or other illegal financial activity;
  • Content that sexually exploits or endangers minors in any way — this will be removed immediately and reported to relevant authorities;
  • Content promoting or glorifying violence, terrorism, or self-harm.

6.2 Harassment and Hate

  • Personal attacks, insults, name-calling, or demeaning remarks directed at another user;
  • Hate speech or discriminatory content based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, or other protected characteristics;
  • Doxxing — posting another person’s private information (real name, address, phone number, workplace, IP address, or other identifying details) without their consent;
  • Sustained, targeted harassment or “pile-on” behavior against an individual user, on or off the Forum;
  • Threats of violence or intimidation of any kind.

6.3 Spam and Manipulation

  • Unsolicited advertising, affiliate links, referral spam, or promotional content unrelated to a genuine discussion;
  • Repeatedly posting the same or similar content across multiple threads or categories (“cross-posting”);
  • Vote/reaction manipulation, including asking others to upvote your content or using multiple accounts to inflate engagement;
  • Bots or automated posting tools used to generate Forum content;
  • Chain letters, pyramid schemes, “get rich quick” schemes, or MLM recruitment.

6.4 Malicious or Unsafe Code

  • Posting code that is malicious, destructive, or designed to compromise a system without clear, prominent warning labels and legitimate educational context;
  • Sharing code obtained through unauthorized/illegal means (e.g., leaked proprietary source code);
  • Asking others to run code on their own machines or via the Compiler for the purpose of causing harm (e.g., “run this and tell me what happens” without disclosure of risk);
  • Sharing credentials, API keys, tokens, or access to systems you do not own or have authorization to share.

6.5 Explicit or Disturbing Content

  • Sexually explicit, pornographic, or gratuitously violent images, videos, text, or links;
  • Gore or graphic depictions of injury or death;
  • Content designed primarily to shock or disturb rather than to inform or discuss.

6.6 Misinformation and Impersonation

  • Deliberately false or misleading technical information presented as fact where it could cause harm (e.g., false security advice that could lead to compromise);
  • Impersonation of Techietory staff, moderators, or other community members;
  • Fabricated screenshots, quotes, or “leaks” presented as authentic.

6.7 Off-Platform Harm

  • Coordinating harassment, brigading, or attacks against individuals or other communities/platforms;
  • Sharing invite links or promoting communities primarily dedicated to any of the prohibited content categories above.

7. Intellectual Property and Attribution

7.1 Only post content you have the right to share. If you quote or reference another source (article, book, Stack Overflow answer, another forum), provide clear attribution and a link to the original where possible.

7.2 Do not post large verbatim excerpts of copyrighted books, articles, or paid course material. Brief excerpts with attribution and your own commentary/analysis are acceptable; wholesale reproduction is not.

7.3 If you share code, clearly indicate its license (if any) and origin. By posting code to the Forum, you agree to the User Content license terms in our Terms of Use, meaning other users may view, learn from, and (unless you state otherwise) reasonably reuse small snippets for learning purposes.

7.4 If you believe your copyrighted work has been posted without authorization, follow the copyright complaint process in Section 10.7 of our Terms of Use.

8. Code Sharing and Security Rules

Because Techietory includes a technical audience and an online Compiler, we hold code-related posts to specific standards:

8.1 Label security/exploit content clearly. Educational discussion of vulnerabilities, exploits, or offensive security techniques is only permitted in a dedicated, clearly labeled security/CTF category (if enabled) and must:

  • Focus on educational understanding, responsible disclosure, or systems you own or are authorized to test;
  • Not target real, identifiable, unpatched systems belonging to third parties;
  • Not provide “ready-to-run” attack tooling aimed at unauthorized access.

8.2 No credential/data dumps. Never post leaked databases, credential lists, personal data dumps, or stolen source code, even “for educational purposes” or “for research.”

8.3 Malware/red-team code. Sharing of malware source code, ransomware, or advanced red-team tooling is not permitted outside explicit, moderator-approved educational contexts with strict safeguards, and never with functional payloads.

8.4 Compiler links. If you share a link to a public Compiler snippet, ensure the code complies with the Compiler’s Acceptable Use rules (Section 5.2 of the Terms of Use) — no malware, crypto-mining, denial-of-service tools, or resource-abuse scripts.

8.5 Warn about destructive commands. If sharing commands that can delete data, modify system files, or affect production environments (e.g., rm -rf, DROP TABLE, git push --force), clearly warn readers of the risk.

9. Signatures, Avatars, and Profile Content

9.1 Signatures must not contain more than a reasonable number of links, must not include auto-playing media, and must not be used primarily for advertising. 9.2 Avatars and profile banners may not contain content prohibited under Section 6. 9.3 Profile bios and “About Me” sections are subject to the same rules as regular posts. 9.4 Moderators may remove or reset signatures/avatars that violate these Rules without prior notice.

10. Voting, Reactions, and “Best Answer”

10.1 Use upvotes/reactions and “mark as solution” features honestly to reflect genuine helpfulness or agreement — not to game reputation systems. 10.2 Do not organize or request vote brigading, either on the Forum or via outside platforms. 10.3 Manipulating reputation/badges through fake accounts or coordinated voting is treated as a serious violation under Section 6.3.

11. Moderation

11.1 Moderator Authority

Moderators and administrators may, at their discretion and without prior notice:

  • Edit, move, merge, split, lock, unlist, or delete threads and posts;
  • Issue warnings, apply temporary mutes, suspend, or permanently ban accounts;
  • Remove signatures, avatars, or profile content;
  • Restrict posting privileges for new or repeat-offending accounts;
  • Escalate serious violations (e.g., illegal content, credible threats) to law enforcement.

11.2 Moderator Conduct

Moderators are expected to apply these Rules fairly and consistently, explain moderation actions when reasonably possible, and avoid using their position for personal disputes. Concerns about a specific moderator’s conduct can be raised via the Contact page addressed to Forum Administration.

11.3 Enforcement Approach

While serious violations (illegal content, doxxing, credible threats, malware distribution) may result in immediate permanent bans without warning, most other violations follow a graduated approach:

LevelTypical TriggerTypical Action
1 — NoticeMinor rule breakage (off-topic post, missing code block, wrong category)Informal note or edit by a moderator; no formal mark on account
2 — WarningRepeated minor issues, mild disrespect, spam-adjacent behaviorFormal warning logged on account; content removed/edited
3 — Temporary RestrictionContinued violations after warning, moderate harassment, repeated spamTemporary mute (inability to post/comment) ranging from 24 hours to 30 days
4 — SuspensionSerious or repeated violations, targeted harassment, IP infringement, unsafe code sharingAccount suspension (duration at moderator discretion, typically 7–90 days)
5 — Permanent BanIllegal content, doxxing, credible threats, hate speech, malware distribution, ban evasion, severe or repeated violations after suspensionPermanent removal of Forum access, and potentially full Site access

Techietory reserves the right to skip levels or take immediate permanent action for severe violations, regardless of prior history.

11.4 Reporting Content

If you see content that violates these Rules, please use the “Report” function on the post/thread where available, or contact forum@techietory.com with a link to the content and a brief explanation. Do not engage in public “call-out” threads about rule violations — report them and let moderators handle it.

11.5 Appeals

If you believe a moderation action was taken in error, you may appeal by emailing appeals@techietory.com within 30 days of the action, including your username and a brief explanation. Appeals are reviewed by a moderator or administrator who was not involved in the original decision where reasonably possible. Decisions on appeals are final.

12. Off-Topic and Lounge Category

12.1 If enabled, our Off-Topic/Lounge category allows broader, non-technical discussion among community members.

12.2 Even in Off-Topic areas, all other Rules (Section 6 prohibited content, respectful conduct, etc.) continue to apply in full. Off-topic does not mean rule-free.

12.3 Discussion of divisive political or religious topics is discouraged outside of any specifically designated category, to keep the community welcoming for all members; such threads may be locked or moved at moderator discretion if they become unproductive or hostile.

13. Direct/Private Messages

13.1 If the Forum offers private messaging between users, these Rules apply to private messages as they do to public posts.

13.2 Unsolicited advertising, harassment, or prohibited content sent via private message may be reported and will be treated the same as public violations.

13.3 Moderators generally do not monitor private messages proactively but may review them in response to a report or as part of an investigation into a Rules violation.

14. Contests, Giveaways, and Community Events

14.1 If Techietory or community members host contests, giveaways, hackathon threads, or similar events on the Forum, they are subject to any additional rules posted for that specific event, which supplement (and do not replace) these Rules.

14.2 Submissions to contests must be original work (or properly licensed/attributed) and must not violate Section 6.

15. Changes to These Rules

We may update these Forum Rules from time to time to address new situations, categories, or community needs. Material changes will be announced via a pinned Forum post or Site banner. Continued use of the Forum after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Rules.

16. Contact

  • Report content: Use the in-thread “Report” button, or email forum@techietory.com
  • Appeal a moderation decision: appeals@techietory.com
  • General Forum questions: forum@techietory.com or our Contact page

Thank you for helping keep the Techietory Forum a great place to learn and share knowledge. When in doubt, ask a moderator before posting — it’s easier than an appeal afterward.
