Amazon has taken a decisive step toward consolidating its long-term technology ambitions by restructuring its internal organization to bring artificial intelligence, custom silicon, and quantum computing under a single leadership umbrella.

By placing long-time AWS executive Peter DeSantis at the center of this newly formed advanced technology division, Amazon is signaling that it no longer sees AI models, infrastructure, and future computing paradigms as separate initiatives. Instead, the company appears focused on vertical integration, where AI software performance is directly linked to chip design, networking efficiency, and energy optimization.
