Samsung Showcases Revolutionary Creaseless Foldable Display Technology at CES 2026

Samsung Display made a significant breakthrough public at CES 2026 by demonstrating the world’s first truly creaseless foldable OLED panel, a development that could fundamentally change the foldable smartphone market. The demonstration, though briefly displayed before the booth was removed from the show floor, provided attendees with a glimpse of technology that addresses one of the most persistent complaints about foldable devices.

The new panel was showcased alongside a current-generation Galaxy Z Fold 7, allowing observers to directly compare the technologies. According to those who witnessed the display, the new panel exhibits no visible crease whatsoever, even when viewed from extreme angles. This contrasts sharply with current foldable displays, which typically show some degree of creasing depending on lighting conditions and viewing angles.

Industry analysts believe this technology will likely debut in Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8, expected to launch in summer 2026. The timing is particularly significant as it coincides with Apple’s rumored entry into the foldable smartphone market. Samsung’s advancement in eliminating the crease could help the company maintain its leadership position in foldables just as competition intensifies.

The engineering achievement required to eliminate the crease involves sophisticated materials science and manufacturing processes. Samsung has developed laser-drilled metal display plates that better distribute stress across the folding area, preventing the formation of permanent creases. This same technology is reportedly being supplied to Apple for its upcoming foldable iPhone, demonstrating how Samsung’s display innovations benefit the broader smartphone industry.

Samsung’s commitment to foldable technology extends beyond just eliminating creases. The company plans to expand its foldable lineup in 2026 with three distinct models: the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Flip 8, and a mysterious third device with the codename H8. Industry speculation suggests this third device could be a wide-fold design, potentially giving Samsung a competitive answer to Apple’s anticipated foldable device.

The creaseless display technology represents years of research and development investment. Samsung has been the dominant force in the foldable smartphone market since pioneering the category in 2019, and continued innovation in display technology ensures the company remains at the forefront of this growing segment.

For consumers, the elimination of the crease means a more seamless viewing experience that better approximates the look and feel of a traditional flat display. This improvement could help convince skeptics who have avoided foldables due to concerns about the visible fold line interrupting their viewing experience.
